Color Belt Poomsae’s

A form is a defined pattern of defense-and-attack motions.  Two different style of forms are practiced at Kim’s Academy:

  • Palgwe – forms that originated in the mid-1960s prior to all kwans joining together to form the Kukkiwon, at which point the taeguek forms were developed.
  • Taegeuk – By 1970 additional kwans (schools) had joined the Korea Taekwondo Association so the newer set of taegeuk forms was developed to better represent inputs from all the participating kwans.
The following series of video clips demonstrate Base Form, the Palgwe, and the Taeguek forms as performed by Grandmaster Kim.  If you are on a mobile device we recommend you rotate it horizontally and click the box in the lower right corner near the “YouTube” text to view the video fullscreen.
