Board Holding Training

As students progress to black belt, one of your responsibilities is to hold boards at belt tests and in class. KABBA is offering this workshop to help students learn and improve their board holding skills. This class is targeted to those students who haven’t yet had a lot of practice or don’t yet feel comfortable holding boards, but who are willing to hold boards for others at tests or class. Newly promoted black belts are encouraged to attend so that you can hold boards at upcoming tests.

Improve Your Poomsae – 01/29/22

This training will provide insights and techniques to help improve your poomsae performance.  Whether you want to improve for competition, demonstrations, or testing; this training is for you. The training is appropriate for all red belt and black belt levels, including advanced students and masters. The training helps strengthen fundamental understanding of poomsae techniques and concepts and provides participants with tools to continue improvement after the course.

The training will be led by Master Caroline Inay-Park, WT International Poomsae Referee.

Black Belt Training Event – January 25th, 2020

Attention all Black Belts!

KABBA is pleased to announce the next training event that every Black Belt should find beneficial as they advance through Dan ranks.

When: Saturday, January 25th, at 11:00am – 04:00pm.

Sparring Techniques – Master Ken Louis, 5th Dan Master Instructor
When is the right time to take a step back on the mat? When is the right time to try a back kick? If you don’t know, Master Louis will be sharing fundamentals of sparring and the most effective drills for instructors to help students practice footwork to move around the ring.

Korean Terminology – Grandmaster Joon Y. Kim, 9th Dan Grandmaster Instructor
Go beyond “charyiot “ and “joon-bi.” In this class, Grandmaster Kim will give an overview of Korean terms relating to taekwondo techniques.

Teaching Self-Defense – Sr. Master Dany Monares, 6th Dan Master Instructor
Not a Self-Defense skills class, but a chance to learn how to structure a class for the non martial arts person. Master Monares teaches.

Specialty Kicks – Mr. John Bozeki, 3rd Dan Instructor
Take your demo planning to the next level. Mr. Bozeki brings the “WOW” to this class that displays high-flying, super-rotating, viral video-making kicks. Along with teaching the techniques, the class will include direction to help instructors teach the moves to their students.

Running a test – Sr. Master Josh Mostowitz, 6th Dan Master Instructor
Do you know what the Masters up front want to see during a test? Curious about which techniques need to be ready when? Master Mostowitz will go over running a test, from basic to advanced techniques, and how to prepare students for a successful test experience.

Self-Defense Workshop in Lyons, Kansas

Kim’s Academy is pleased to offer a self-defense workshop at the Great Plains Women Expo being held in Lyons, Kansas on April 26th and 27th.  The workshop will be led by several Kim’s Academy Black Belt instructors and three sessions will be offered.

Location: The Celebration Center & Bar K Bar Arena, located at 1145 E. 56 Hwy in Lyons, Kansas

Session #1: Friday, April 26th from 5pm to 7pm.
Session #2: Saturday, April 27th from 10am to Noon.
Session #3: Saturday, April 27th from 1pm to 3pm.

In these sessions participants will receive information on how to address strong and violent acts of aggression and attack toward women.  The Instructors will present a full range of Personal Body Weapons (beyond just hands and feet) that can be used when faced with an attacker.  Strike points and pressure points will be explored and participants will the opportunity to practice strikes.  Instructors will present several common attack situations and demonstrate a simple set of responses designed to enable the victim to escape or counter the attack.  The overall objective of the workshops is to stimulate thinking about personal safety and initiate planning for establishing or improving personal safety practices, both in and outside of the home.

Please note:  The Instructors for this event have already been selected for the workshop so volunteers are not needed to teach.  Kim’s Academy students of any belt rank are invited as participants in the workshop.

Instructor Training Event – July 28th, 2018

KABBA has planned our next instructor training event. We will offer a full day of training classes aimed at helping instructors improve their Tae Kwon Do teaching skills and to create consistency within Kim’s Academy.  The date for this event is Saturday, July 28. The class will run all day 9am to 4pm with a one hour lunch break.

Various topics will be presented throughout the day from several instructors, ranging in rank from Jr. Master to GrandMaster.

The training event is geared towards instructors and assistants. We also encourage any black belt who helps instruct in class or would like to be an instructor in the future to attend.

When: Saturday, July 28, at 09:00am – 04:00pm, with a one hour lunch break.
