Recap: 300th Belt Promotion Celebration

October 24th, 2024, was a momentous day at Kim’s Academy—a day of celebration, achievement, and reflection, as we marked the 300th Belt Promotion Test in our school’s history! Many have asked about the origins of this tradition, and we are proud to share that the very first promotion test took place in early 1975, when the school was still known as Han’s Taekwondo School (before it became Kim’s Academy). That was nearly 50 years ago! To put this in perspective, the 100th promotion test occurred in April 1991, and the 200th in December 2007. Several activities and meaningful gifts of appreciation were presented to Grandmaster Kim as part of the celebration: The Kim’s Academy Demo Team put on an incredible performance, showcasing the skill and spirit that define our academy. Junior Grandmaster Charlie Weaver presented Grandmaster Kim with a letter of congratulations from U.S. Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas, recognizing his remarkable accomplishments. Master Ron Hawkins, Secretary of KABBA, presented Grandmaster Kim with plaque from KABBA congratulating him on his 300th Belt Promotion test.   Master Jessica Pierce, Vice-President of KABBA, presented Grandmaster Kim with a U.S. flag that had flown over the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.—a true honor. Senior Master Jessica Pierce also shared a heartfelt letter from President Joe Biden, who commended Grandmaster Kim for his outstanding contributions to the martial arts community. The entire Kim’s Academy family—both instructors and students—extends their heartfelt congratulations to Grandmaster Kim on this incredible milestone. Here’s to many more years of excellence and achievement!
